Green Build Expo 2007 - PacifiCrest Carpets December 10, 2007
PacifiCrest is a manufacturer of commercial carpets located in Irvine, California, a subsidiary of Royalty Carpet Mills. PacifiCrest has demonstrated outstanding environmental performance in carpet manufacturing for over 20 years.
HOW DO THEY CONTRIBUTE?
PacifiCrest carpets are sustainable, recyclable and available with a backing option called E-Lok BioBack. Their carpet face weight contains up to 90% post industrial recycled content and their backing compositions contain:
Up to 10% rapidly renewable resource content binding agents
- Up to 55% post industrial recycled content in backing composition
- Up to 10% post consumer recycled content backing
- Greater than 75% overall post-industrial, post-consumer, rapidly renewable content.
Their efforts include using recycled water for their carpet dyeing process and then reclaim the water for further industrial use saving millions of gallons of fresh drinkable water each year.
PacifiCrest also uses natural gas to supply their manufacturing facility with electricity and steam for heating the recycled water. In 1993 they helped pioneer the new technology of energy co-generation using one clean burning fuel source to power their turbines yielding electrical and thermal energy.
FUNCTION AND FASHION
Not only are they environmentally conscious, but fashion conscious as well! PacifiCrest has just introduced a product appropriately named Ambiente (Italian for environment) which is a series of 8 styles constructed on Antron Legacy High Recycled Content Nylon fiber for sustainable design projects ranging from33.7% to 45.6 % recycled content. The fiber is EPP (Environmentally Preferred Product) certified to have lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared to other products that serve the same purpose. The names and styles of the product are inspired by the Tuscan Hillsides, azure waters, dolomite cliffs and country landscapes that are part of the natural beauty surrounding Italian culture and creativity. They remove a lot of the guess work for designers when trying to choose a patterned carpet with a complimenting solid. They include these options for you in their sample binders.
